Your vision might be one of the most special things that you have in life. It is the way that we see the expression of our loved ones faces, and see the the sunsets and sunrises. It is important that you take very good care of your vision, and a part of your eye health it is important that you visit with an optometrist on a regular basis. You want to go to the eye doctor at least once a year to ensure that your eyes are not changing, and that your eyes are healthy. However, it is very possible that you have not visited with an optometrist in a very long time. If not, here are a few things that you can expect during your eye exam.
The optometrist is likely to want to get an idea of where your vision is at in a general sense. You have most likely seen the charts that go from large at the top to small at the bottom. These are Snellen charts. You will likely be asked to read the letters or numbers on the chart. It is not that uncommon to have to read the chart with each individual eye, and then with both eyes. You may also have to repeat this process a few different times at different distances from the chart.
The doctor will be looking to see if you need any type of correction, so you will likely be asked to look through a series of lenses. You will sit down in a chair and then be asked which of the lenses looks better. Simply tell the optometrist which lens makes your vision a bit more clear. The problem is some of the time they are very similar. So, just tell the optometrist exactly what you see.
One of the main concerns in an eye is if the pressures are able to be contained. The doctor is going to check the anatomy of the eye by taking pictures. The pictures do not hurt in the least bit, but they will allow the doctor to look at the blood vessels and the draining duct to see if everything is in working condition. If your eye is having a hard time dealing with pressures, you may need to have a correctional surgery, and the doctor will know exactly what to do. Leaving your vision up in the air is a bad idea, visit with an optometrist regularly.
